I usually grow melons in large tubs on the polytunnel staging. Then just let them get on with it. My most successful melons were honeydew and Galia. Seeds saved from shop bought fruit. I’ve only tried 2 varieties from seed suppliers one I don’t remember the name. Grew well and produced a few fruit. But they were tiny and tasted really quite unpleasant. Other was a small variety of watermelon. Which was an epic fail. No fruit at all. Hardly any flowers. That was last year and the first one I’ve ever tried growing in a bed. So no more melon growing for me. Until I have my other tunnels in place.
