Growing melons - Veggie - 28-04-2025 Any recommendations or tips for growing melons. I seem to have lots of seeds but never had much success growing them. I remember growing Minnesota Midget with moderate success, some years ago, but no luck with any others. RE: Growing melons - SarrissUK - 28-04-2025 I've tried many types but never had a single melon, but it's not really a fair estimation though, whether anyone else would be getting the same results. I have had them squashed into a little greenhouse, or outside. They never had it easy lol RE: Growing melons - Small chilli - 28-04-2025 I usually grow melons in large tubs on the polytunnel staging. Then just let them get on with it. My most successful melons were honeydew and Galia. Seeds saved from shop bought fruit. I’ve only tried 2 varieties from seed suppliers one I don’t remember the name. Grew well and produced a few fruit. But they were tiny and tasted really quite unpleasant. Other was a small variety of watermelon. Which was an epic fail. No fruit at all. Hardly any flowers. That was last year and the first one I’ve ever tried growing in a bed. So no more melon growing for me. Until I have my other tunnels in place. RE: Growing melons - JJB - 28-04-2025 I grew them once years ago and from what I can remember, they weren't a huge success. I had one fruit that was tasty enough, a cantaloupe variety. I grew them like cucumbers. I came to the conclusion that there wasn't enough return for the effort. |
