Hello, firstly for the computer ham fisted it was difficult to actually get this far. Perhaps a few basic instructions on how to 'get on' would help (thanks to those on the other page) who helped me x  I live on Mull with a garden that surrounds my home. Just had a deer fence put up as I've had a battle with deer over winter and spring eating my willow fence and new plants. I can now relax and stop worrying each morning about the amount of damage they have done and I've removed all the barricades and trip wires (fishing boat rope found on the beach).

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me what’s wrong with my little chilli plug? It was fine until this morning when I noticed the leaves are a bit curly but not crispy. I’ve check for aphids and there are none there.

Moved to this incredible gardening area from California (I am now on the Isle of Mull in Scotland). WHAT A MIRACLE!! Brown/black/wet dirt REALLY EXISTS! I lived in a little town called Ramona (halfway up the mountains of San Diego) and one needed dynamite, several pickaxes, one or 2 chisel digging bars, 4-5 shovels/spades... all because the decomposed and not granite is IMPOSSIBLE to dig in. I have REVELED in my garden in Tobermory since I arrived... and the holidays were over. 
Evidently I am an inclement weather gardener as the 6 weeks of STELLAR, Southern California style weather had be despondent and not wanting to garden. I really thought I would NEVER have to water another garden once I moved here.. but after 3 weeks of zero rain, I had to start watering... which is a challenge as I live in an upstairs flat and there are no outside taps. Yep, buckets and buckets from my bathtub to the garden! All for a good cause though!

I do have to say... I find Scottish weeds VERY annoying. Seems EVERYTHING that ISN'T supposed to grow in a garden does so and with VIGOR and replicates via the most VILE AND INSIDIOUS route of runners. Often running almost a foot underground. Most satisfying though when one can gently tease up a runnier of a foot or more in length with a bunch of budding babies on it! Currently n my garden, and the bane of my existence are (in order of my abject dislike of them): Ground Elder (yes, I know it is edible but I still have to clear my entire back garden and I could feed ALL of Tobermory with what is growing back there!), Couch Grass (I'm Ok with it settling into my lawn as it is indestructible and hard for the dog to destroy), Bind Weed (I actually really LIKE this one... and I do mean ONE or 2 as they remind me of Morning Glories when they bloom. However, when they try to choke my roses, I have a few choice Military style vernacular for them!), and Sorrel, which I just researched and found that it is indeed edible (my neighbor said it isn't) and so I will save a bit for a pot now! It is a very pretty ground cover and I might get around to planting it once I get to the remveal of my front lawn and put in hand made Gunnera leaf stepping stones!

Ok, enough diarrhea of the fingers... I am just so excited... my garden ideas actually kept me awake and plotting for 30 hours straight a couple of weeks ago. Cured that by drawing on photos of what I am planning.

Maggie is the Staffie on the sofa. The daft Lab balanced on the back of the sofa is Shadow. 
Shadow is my newphews dog and Maggie was on holiday with them while I was otherwise occupied.     

When I originally moved to my present plot I set up a diary on another forum. This is my second full season on the plot. Now this forum is established I thought I may as well continue my aid to memory here.
If I can find the original piccies from when I took over the plot I will post them. I still intend posting on the other forum so if you visit you may see the same thing twice.

The plot is mostly planted up now and yesterday was too windy to do much. I didn't feel safe in the greenhouse so busied myself with weeding my small maincrop carrot bed. Now that they have germinated, and even though they are in a raised bed, I think I will cover them with the fine mesh I used last year with some success at keeping carrot fly off.. This mesh was bought cheaply off a well know auction site and is designed as a fly screen to cover windows.
Because I have a bed spare I may sow a second lot of either Tendersnax or Chantenay carrots, not sure yet.

I hope I haven't bored you with this first post and maybe a few piccies in the future will make the thread a bit more interesting.

We are slowly ironing out the bugs and have a great bunch of members, to keep the furum healthy and vibrant we need to invite some new blood.

As the title says "saving dahlia seeds"

When I walk around the plots,  people grow some stunning Dahlias and I thought about pinching a few seed heads at the end of the season.

Does anyone do it? Is it easy?

Took the plot in June 2019, I believe it had been empty for 3 years - These are private plots and someone has kindly let me use one that used to belong to their dad. The only downside is I suppose they could kick me out anytime, it’s a risk I'm prepared to take however it does limit my spending on the likes of a new shed, PT, etc....
