My portable GH garden

This year I've been growing all the GH tomatoes/cucumbers in 30litre pots - instead of in open-bottomed pots resting on a big bed of old compost. This has had lots of advantages - mainly the ability to move the plants around, both within the GH (If they need more room) and outdoors if they should have a problem or are finished - creating room for a replacement pot.
The pots are easy to lift as they have handles.
When the plants have finished cropping, I move them out of the GH, I pull them up and empty the soil into a big trug. Remove any roots, add some chicken manure pellets, line the bottom of the pot with wool insulation, and refill the pot with the used compost. These pots are being replanted with all sorts of veggies - potatoes, beans, cucumber, chard, lettuce, carrots, beetroot etc. They  stay outside on the patio or near a waterbutt, and can be moved back into the GH when there's a vacancy. I reckon I'll be able to grow something in each pot about 3 times a year.
Root crops , like carrots, are doing much better in the pots (obviously) than in the ground with all the roots and stones there are here. I'm going to start a sowing rotation of carrots - probably a pot every 3 weeks, maybe one for beetroot too.
I'll be able to empty the GH completely in the winter to give it a good clean out which I've been unable to do for years.
I already grow salad leaves and shallow rooters in supermarket veg crates on the GH bench and outdoors but the full size crates are a bit unwieldy to move when full so I'm going to use the smaller mushroom/spring onion crates, moving these in and out of the GH as appropriate.
The more I can grow close to the house the better as it takes the pressure off trying to water things at the end of the garden.

Sounds like one of your plans that will really work. A master plan even.

My plans always work - some better than others. Only a few survive the test of time. Even those are refined and honed to perfection. Big Grin

This week is Roots and Shoots week (remember my other cunning plan?) which is the first week in my 3 weekly sowing rotation.
The GHs are still quite full with tomatoes and cucumbers in their 30ltr pots. However, I can fit a flower bucket (MFB) in the gap where two tubs meet. Imagine a pair of glasses as two big pots and a flower bucket where the nose would be!
I sieved a 30ltr pot of old compost, added some coir and chicken manure pellets and this was enough to fill 6 MFBs.
My plan is to sow carrots, beetroot, radish and winter radish, in 4 MFBs every 3 weeks
Next week, being Fruits week, I'll sow peas and DFB in a few more pots - either large, or MFBs, depending on available space.
The following week is the turn of Leaves, probably lettuce, rocket, chard/spinach and some pakchoi or kale. These may be sown in trays, rather than pots and they will be grown on the GH bench.
Today I sowed carrots, beetroot, summer radish and mooli radish.
With a bit of luck, I'll be able to keep up this sowing plan throughout the winter and, most importantly, have something to harvest over winter too.
You'll be the first to know. Big Grin

That's a brilliant plan. All you need to do now is order sufficient daylight and you'll be self sufficient all winter. You are nearly even inspiring me to use the gh over winter..... I said nearly. Smile

I have tried, but they got frosted which was so disheartening. All winter growing nicely only to be brought down by February frosts.
I might try some chard and carrots in MFB rather than in the border, as they're in the way there come spring. Then again, I liked the few Snak Hero peas (the few that survived the heatwave) it might be worth trying a few in a pot. They don't grow tall like Bijou or Carouby. Maybe I could get in there first for a change  Tongue

Have you had any cuca's from your cucamelon? What are they like?

I see what you mean, your pots are like spectacles and noses.
