2025 - Today's Recipe

Pollock and butter bean stew,

Half price pork joint with cranbery/port mix  (I may as well use the cranberry as I am not struck on turkey meat)

B. Home made bread* and raspberry jam.
L. Leftover lentil & mushroom curry and rice
D. Jacket potato with tuna mayo and gherkins.

* made the bread yesterday in the breadmaker BUT made an error in measuring the yeast! It should have been 1 and half teaspoons but I added 1 and a half Tablespoons. Its rose so much that the top was pushing against the lid. Its the tallest loaf I've ever made.

Multi coloured Chips and spicy beans for me. Nachos for him.

Simila story here!  I used to make wine. One old recipe called for a slice of toast floated on top of the must and the yeast sprinkled on top of the toast to allow it to be added gradually. Imagine my astonishment the next day when there was a two foot by eighteen inch slice of toast hangimg over the side of the bucket!

I can top that!! My Mum used to work in a bakery where they would mix the dough for the bread and then, the dough would be loaded into a van and driven to another bakery where it would be cooked and turned into loaves.
One hot summer's day, the van broke down mid journey, and, while the driver waited for the recovery vehicle to arrive, the yeast continued to work its stuff on the dough! When they opened the back door to remove the dough, they found that it had risen so much that it had completely filled the back of the van!! They had to hack it out before the van could continue its journey!
How we laughed.

Mushroom and veg stir fry with rice this evening.

Sirloin steak, chips, mushrooms & tomato

Dodgy stomach so had a tin of chicken soup at lunchtime.

Teatime I was a bit hungrier so after a rummage in the freezer found a seafood Paella hiding at the back. It was a bit of a change from meat, but I must stat making space in the freezer fo all the cheap meat on offer at the big supermarkets just now!
