The build

Today I helped Bob build a fake beehive. It’s a housing for the treatment plant pump and electrics. Because the housing that came with it ( the green box to the left in the photo) . Is basically a boom box! It makes everything so much noisier! So after some research a few people have made the fake beehive. So we did the same. It’s made a huge difference.

It’s not quite the finish article as our ground level will be changing. So when we know the final position it’s have some fake legs and a landing board. At the moment it could be mistaken for a dog kennel    Big Grin .

Finally the electrician turned up. We went over a few things. We just wanted to check we weren’t planning/ trying anything stupid. We can start running some wires now.
During the week we had a carpet fitter come in and advise us on our flooring. As we’re going from tile to laminate to carpet. We weren’t sure how to do it without having little trip hazards in all the doorways. We’re going to get him to fit the carpets.

Yeah now the electrician has been we can really move forward. We’ve been waiting over a month for that bugger to turn up. But as we’ll be able to run the wires ourselves and we’ll be getting mates rates. He can be forgiven for taking a while. (Even still he was getting quite close to being growled at). We’re also waiting for a couple of the people to pull their fingers out. The grant people for the air source ( been waiting since beginning of April for them useless ****). Also waiting for MVHR companies quotes. Turns out another thing that needs a bit of paper saying it’s been installed by a professional.

I did all the re-wiring in the house I live in, all the central heatng plumbing as well as all the kithen and bathroom plumbing. I used youtube and google as my friend!
Gawd knows what will happen when my sons & daughter come to sell the house once I've snuffed it as no certificates! I DID get a heating engineer to fit the gas boiler but I did all the plumbing for it!
Horrible memories of crawling under an 18 inch floor space dragging wires and soldering plumbing joints.

At least yours will be certificated SC, with me it was a case of needs must,as I had very little money or time to get it done!

New build, we have no choice. Otherwise Bob would do all the electrics. He’s doing all the plumbing.  He wouldn’t do the air source as out of his comfort zone and the MVHR needs designing for maximum efficiency , again we’re both fairly clueless on it ( me more than Bob ).

I had an electrician to change the house fuse box last year as part of the new bathroom was fitting a new shower and it should really have a trip switch rather than a wire fuse. I did all the plumbing and wiring for the new shower and the electrician was happy to wire it into the new box. He did test all the circuits into the new box which were lighting , ring mains, cooker, 2 showers and consevatory, 8 circuits in all. The certificate he gave me seems to cover the lot. He supplied the box and the total cost was £735 which I thought was a lot but difficult to get any trades people here and he travelled from Manchester.

Yeah getting trades is incredibly difficult. And the choice on the island is very limited. There are 4 electricians in the area. We would only consider using 2 of them. The one we’ve got, another who is trying really hard to retire. Then there’s the other 2. Less said the better. £735 seem quite reasonable to me.
