All the others have the letters in reverse alphabetical order, whereas MEQ is out of order.

Okay, this one is bugging me!
Things I think I've ruled out:
Airports
Initials of American presidents/vice presidents
Currencies
The corresponding number to the letter of the alphabet being relevant
Weights and measures
My best guess is they are acronyms that I don't recognise. If they are, any chance of a clue as to what category they might fall under? Or am I barking up the wrong tree with that as well?
