Lovely sunny day again. Unfortunately a stiff cold wind blowing.

Lovely and sunny today, and it's definitely warming up the ground, but it's deceptive. We had a hard frost last night, will have again tonight, and in some parts of the country there might be snow!
We get it slightly colder around the house too, as it's on a hill and quite exposed.

Anyone praying for rain yet? Not had any here for several weeks and none forecast in next 10 day at least. Last words from the weather forecaster just now: "No sign of significant rain for some time". I hope he is wrong.

Could do with a drop of rain - the soil is too dry to plant anything as I'm hopeless at watering them afterwards.

Very dry here too, water butts are getting low after being filled to the brim by the rain a few weeks ago. It's supposed to cool down a bit starting tomorrow, apparently we're getting a low of 4 degrees on Sunday.

Agreed, I put tomatoes out to bask in the sun, the gh was too hot. I can't see me doing that next week. The weather lady here said she didn't see any significant rain during all of May Sad

No shortage of rain here! Glorious sunny day so I hung out my washing first thing. Decided to get it in at tea time. Was just thinking about it when a thunderstorm erupted, flashing lightning as well and the heavens opened on my washing! Rolleyes

Glorious sunshine again now, but the damage has been done! I'm sure the allortment would have been plaesed with the downpour and my water butt will be a bit fuller! Cool

I've had my tomatoes in the greenhouse all day and night for the past week. They'll be coming back into the house until lows get back up to 10 C, though.

Hot and dry springs seem to be more common now. It's one reason I've started using more wicking and Kratky hydroponics containers instead of normal pots, since they are more water efficient.

Mulching the plastic raised beds is paramount otherwise the soil around the edges shrinks away from the plastic leaving a gap, like in a pot, and the soil surface crusts over. The benefit of the black/dark green plastic is that the soil warms up earlier, but in hot weather it bakes into a brick that water just runs off.

My tomatoes have been in the GH for weeks. The only pampering they received was covering them with plastic cloches over night, but I haven't done that for several weeks. No mollycoddling here. Big Grin
