We tried the council. They dropped off a poison trap thing. All the neighbours have pets so I'm not hugely keen but my husband ignored me and put it out. Seemingly no difference.
I'm aware they can find other ways in but I don't think we're a huge draw and I'd like to be the most difficult for them to access. I am hoping they'll opt for something more convenient elsewhere.
Maybe my endless moaning about the rats will convince my husband that it is actually time to get a pet....
