Only one on site today! Only popped in to check on things and finished up doing two hour hand weeding! I can see my scorzonera (Black Salsify) plants now that I have pulled the weeds out around them. Once again I just dropped weeds onto paths so hopefully the sun will frazzle them and they won't root again!
I strted off with one bed, then another beckoned and before I new it I had hand weeded most of the beds. The flowers are still looking nice and appear to be making a second flowering in some cases?
Some of the onions are decent but a lot will be pickling onions or used in making Greek Stifado methinks as they are quite small? The leeks are pathetic and the Elephant garlic are rubbish!
I have a theory about this which is adopted by the champion leek growers. Vegetatively grown leeks grow bigger, but only for a couple of years when they start to deteriorate (similar to cloning) and have to be grown from seed? This could be why the elephant garlic has deriorated, or it could have been the dry spring? I dont know.
