The weather here sounds similar to SCs? 
We have had two 'named storms recently but this un-named version is far worse,with strong winds and horizontal rain which feels like you are being pebbledashed when out in it. 
A sideways gust nearly blew poor Kato in front of a car when I had him out this afternoon!
