I have to put a 1 inch layer of damp sand in the bottom of my electric propagator as I used it without once and the heat warped the plastic base. 
I will have to venture into the attic to find propagator as I want to sow some chillies and Cape Gooseberries. I haven't used it for a couple of years so I hope it still works.
