I may have got them with the aid of a book. Not too certain about 5. Now to go back and look at the picture of each one.

OK, every body above seems th think they have got them all.
My guesses are:
1 orange tip
2 clouded yellow
3 peacock
4 comma
5 speckled wood
6 small blue
7 holly blue
8 small tortoise shell
9 brimstone
10 chequered skipper
11 green hairstreak
12 painted lady
and the book I used was British Wildlife (Arlott = 2)

I agree with SC - whose initials happen to match "small copper" 
I racked my aging biologist memory for the answers, then double-checked with Wikipedia that I wasn't imagining/mis-remembering them!
