Potato leaf varieties - Small chilli - 08-05-2026 I know potato leaf varieties are capable of crossing with normal tomatoes. Do they self pollinate or do they need other tomatoes ? Only ask as I have a potato leaf from my lucky dip collection. I planted it outside yesterday. As it was the only one out of the 170 that germinated and I can’t work out from my list of varieties which it is. Just wondering if I isolated it somehow? So it didn’t cross with the other lucky dip plant. That it would still produce? Any advice welcome. RE: Potato leaf varieties - JJB - 08-05-2026 Another good, reasonable question, that I have no idea the answer to. Sorry. RE: Potato leaf varieties - Veggie - 08-05-2026 Tomatoes are self pollinating so don't need company. RE: Potato leaf varieties - Garrett - 08-05-2026 Potato leaf tomatoes are self pollinating like the standard ones, but their "bits" are more exposed so they cross with other varieties more readily. Only a potential issue if you want to save seed. RE: Potato leaf varieties - Small chilli - 08-05-2026 Sorry I should have said. It is for potential seed saving. Depending what any of the mystery tomatoes turn out to be . |
