Forking in a 12x18' patch of green manure (weeds) at the side of the greenhouse. lots of chickweed, fat hen and other young weeds just starting to flower. Just a bit left for tomorrow. It was left fallow this year but will be very fertile for next year.

Its been a good day for collecting fallen apples & pulling up vinca, montbretia and anything else that got in my way.
I also scattered a bucket of wood ash around the garden, mostly near fruit bushes and some in the compost bins.

Up to now I've, walked Kato, cleaned the woodbuner out, reset it and lit it. Brought logs in from oudoor storage, set dinner away and I have settled down to listening to Gregorian Chants on Amazon Music. After dinner I may do a bit of log cutting with my new rechageable one handed mini chainsaw, but I may not if this rain doesnt let off?
Actually these chants are sending me to sleep.................

Vinny, we have one of those little chainsaws too. Actually, we 're on the second one as the first one packed in. However, the two batteries that it came with also fit the little vacuum cleaners recently acquired - and, of course, the replacement chainsaw. They're great for pruning a few branches that are too thick for loppers but not worth getting the "proper" saw out.
PS, Can you snore a little quieter please?

Yes, it's a handy little tool and quite powerful for its size. I have a weeping willow at the top of the garden which had a branch at an awkwad angle to prune with a bow saw and too much bother to fire up the bigger Stihl two stoke chainsaw. The little battery operated jobbie cut though the 3 inch willow branch like butter leaving a very clean cut.
The two batteries give a decent amount of time cutting as well!

Short day now the clocks have changed and rain forecast by 2pm, so we got out sharpish (very ish). P gathered and mulched copper beech leaves and I weeded one of the fruit cages. I'd got fed up of walking past it seeing a blanket of bittercress and dandelions. It was time to deal with it. I'd left it alone for some time because the mason bees were having such a lovely time burrowing and I didn't want to disturb them.

Tidied up the brassica cage this morning removing weeds, dead foliage, leaves and even tomato plants.

Cleared out a couple of tomato pots from GH1 and came up with a new, cunning plan for the layout of the GH.
I'll see if I can find a photo before I try to explain!.

OK, Are you ready? Since I'm growing in pots now, I don't need edges to the beds. I'm going to dismantle the white metal edges, take them down the garden and reassemble them to make a raised bed. This also means that I'll be able to put the pots, two deep, instead of staggered.

It was my wife, Helens, birthday today, she would have been 70 but died at 65. Kato and I had a long,slow walk to the grave from home in the sunshine and paid our respects. Her flowers look nice in the new vase I got her (the other vase blew over and smashed.) The grass seed I sowed on the grave has greened up nicely as well. She always had fresh flowers in the house and since she died she has never been without fesh flowers on her grave.
Sorry for the soppiness of this post but she is vey much a miss and I love her dearly!
