My lift to work arrived so we didn’t get it completely finished. After work and untangling a sheep’s horn (still attached to the sheep ) from a fence and getting an owie . I started rewriting herb labels. Then rain stopped play. RE: 2025 - What I did today - Veggie - 02-08-2025 Planted some sprouting root ginger. Planted a supermarket crate with "spring" onions (the ones that come in bunches from the shop). I've had them rooting in a tub of water for a few weeks and had intended planting them in the veg plot - but, the soil is too dry so I moved to Plan B - the Portable Garden. ![]() Sowed carrot and beetroot seeds in the cucumber pots - doubling my chances of getting something edible from them. Did some weeding, as usual. - docks, nettles, cleavers and enchanter's nightshade. RE: 2025 - What I did today - SarrissUK - 03-08-2025 I've weeded the two main beds today, after harvesting kale and rhubarb. No watering needed, as the rain comes every hour or so. However, I have mollycoddled the rhubarb plant that I moved from in front of the house, to the new 'divider' from the corner of the car parking area in front of the house, and the tree by the driveway road. That probably makes no sense! I'm trying to divide the front lawn into sections - one big lawned area that will get a path and flower beds along both sides of it that goes from the front door out to the driveway. Very traditional. Directly to the right of that is a slope down to the pond - that's where I want to split the lawn off. I planted a raspberry tree, the rescued rhubarb plant that really didn't do very well in deep shade in front of the house, and a normal raspberry plant. I will make a proper bed for them when we can get the wood chipper going again. Over the last couple of weeks, I've also planted twenty absolutely fantastic asparagus plants. I know I've always sworn I don't like them, but maybe it's the difference in soil over here - I actually really enjoy them now! I ordered twenty from Dutch bulbs, but when they turned up, there were twice as many in each bag! I gave away ten to a colleague, and ten to my sister. I've planted mine and they're doing really well, all shooting up asparague that are reaching up to a meter tall. I'm not picking any, of course, but enjoying seeing them do so well. I've been impatiently tapping my feet next to my nine star perennial broccoli, as there's no sign of any flower heads as yet. RE: 2025 - What I did today - JJB - 03-08-2025 I was happily weeding until drizzle turned up (unforecasted) I wish it would rain something useful. RE: 2025 - What I did today - Bren - 03-08-2025 Make cucumber pickles and roasted a tray of toms while the oven was on. No gardening just harvesting today. RE: 2025 - What I did today - Small chilli - 03-08-2025 Went for our monthly walk around Torosay gardens. Sown seeds. Finished levelling herb shelves. RE: 2025 - What I did today - JJB - 04-08-2025 Weeded until rain stopped play, then vegged out. RE: 2025 - What I did today - Small chilli - 05-08-2025 Had a little tidy up around the garden after yesterday’s storm. The frame for my CFB was a casualty. As were some of the CFB plants. While sorting that out I did find some actual beans so that made me happy. Only other casualties were a hydrangea. Sod’s Law that it was the only hydrangea I’ve ever brought. A stem had split at the base, but still attached. So wrapped a bit of the Velcro plant tie tightly around it and put a little stake in to support the top of the stem. A few empty pots put back and a few full pot stood up again. Then I did a very optimistic Chelsea chop on my sweet peas. As they were all laying on the ground. Whole garden is looking a bit battered and bruised. But it’ll bounce back |
