RE: Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2026 - Veggie - 16-01-2026 As a kid, did you link your little finger with your friend's little finger to show that you were friends? I'm extending my little finger to you now.

Obesity stems from overeating, especially of fats and sugar. You can eat everything in moderation.I eat until I am full.Usually twice a day but sometimes only once. Surplus calories from any macronutrient source are responsible for obesity. Highly palatable foods which encourage overeating are typically a combination of carbohydrates and fat, rather than either on their own e.g. milk chocolate, pizza, cookies, deep fried chips. High fructose corn syrup is much more common in the US than over here. I won't dispute that animal products are nutrient dense, but high saturated fat intake is strongly associated with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. There are also other issues with consuming a lot of meat, such as animal fat being the #1 source of dietary dioxin and dioxin-like compounds, and the formation of heterocyclic amines during cooking, all of which are carcinogenic. That's not to say I don't eat animal products either; I do, just not very frequently, although I did follow a high fat, high meat diet for several years in my 20s. As for RFK Jr: weird isn't a strong enough word to describe him. Have a read about how he treated his ex-wife and his fascination with dead animals (and it's not taxidermy!). He also spreads vaccine misinformation around the world, which is going to lead to a lot of deaths and serious illness. RE: Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2026 - Vinny - 16-01-2026 I don't intend chamging my diet as it works so well for me, but I will delve into RFK Juniors life as you have peeked my interest?
RE: Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2026 - Vinny - 17-01-2026 He has been a busy man. I got sick of reading about him in the end!

I'm not saying the food triangle is wrong, just that I'd prefer the UK version.Weird is wonderfull! The world would have a problem straight away if we all gave up eating carbs. I eat plenty of carbs and am nowhere near obese, may be 1/2 a stone over my teenage weight. RE: Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2026 - Mark_Riga - 18-01-2026 I suspect the main reason this has come out now in the US is stated on the 1st page: "Diet-driven chronic disease now disqualifies large numbers of young Americans from military service, undermining national readiness .." I doubt very much they are bothered about the state of health of young Americans otherwise. Clearly they're not or there wouldn't be so many elderly vegans in this world. You're just posing questions that give you the answers that you want to justify your diet, whilst ignoring the eating styles of other people.(18-01-2026, 02:51 PM)Mark_Riga Wrote:Are carbs essential though? It may not be in agreement with the British food recommendations but it is true nonetheless!
