RE: The build - Small chilli - 25-01-2026 (24-01-2026, 11:51 PM)Veggie Wrote: A new kitchen is a big incentive! (25-01-2026, 10:13 AM)JJB Wrote: Gosh a real kitchen, what excitement. You’re both right ladies a huge incentive and ridiculously exciting. I didn’t think I’d ever get a whole new kitchen. I was happy enough that I could have the type of hob I want, new. RE: The build - Veggie - 25-01-2026 You deserve it, SC. Have you decided on the plumbing bit yet? RE: The build - Small chilli - 25-01-2026 (25-01-2026, 01:37 PM)Veggie Wrote: You deserve it, SC. Have you decided on the plumbing bit yet?Yes that’s all decided and is being done now. We roughly knew. Just had to make sure it fitted with unit and appliance placement. RE: The build - Small chilli - 26-01-2026 This is yesterday’s update [attachment=8656] [attachment=8657] . Bathroom nearly done, just shower still to do. Definitely not having blue for the bathroom . This is moisture resistant plasterboard. Which is why it’s a different colour to the rest of the house. Dinning room & kitchen nearly done. Plumbing progress [attachment=8658] still a bit to do. Kitchen plan 3 [attachment=8659] this will be getting redone. Had a couple more ideas. RE: The build - JJB - 26-01-2026 I remember the excitement of a new kitchen from when we had ours done a long time ago. The agonising over what should go where. PS you can't have too many sockets! RE: The build - Veggie - 26-01-2026 I remember the excitement of a new kitchen too - 20 years ago! One thing that you could consider is easier access to the corner cupboard by the fridge. They tend to be inaccessible once you have stuff in there. I have cupboards (like the one in your other corner) that wrap around the corner with two doors that open onto an L shaped cupboard. Even then, the Back corner is the dump corner that is rarely used. I agree with JJB about sockets. I thought I had plenty but, they're not quite enough!! RE: The build - Small chilli - 26-01-2026 Way too late for any more sockets. That was sorted a couple of years ago with all the other electrics locations in the house. We do have a very good selection. Working out where everything is going is a headache. Especially as I’ve not seen a lot of it for nearly 2 years. So hoping I’ve remembered everything. I quite agree about the corner cupboard. I have changed that one this morning. I just couldn’t have one of them ever if it did make other things fit in better. We had one very similar to that at Edith but it was 2 individual small doors that had to be closed in the correct order or they wouldn’t. And you couldn’t open anything either side of them if they were open. Infuriating hateful things. Which ever sort of corner unit we end up with will definitely have pull out shelves or a carousel. I’ll show you plan 4 later. I have to do lunch now for the workers Bob & Glen ( & Hannah the shepherd, she’s provided the roll today, so the least I can do is feed her ) RE: The build - Small chilli - 27-01-2026 It’s been a day of bits. First thing our helper phoned in sick. Which isn’t surprising as he was looking horrible yesterday. Definitely can’t complain as it was Bob that’s infected all of us. I’ve ordered 2 lots of lights for the living room (so we can see which ones work best with our lampshade. I’ve booked an online kitchen planning meeting for Saturday. Bob has enquired if a company would be happy to deliver to a motorway services as they won’t deliver the top half of Scotland, never mind the islands. They said yes. So kitchen worktop samples have been ordered. He’s also made enquiries about some of our kitchen lights (what’s needed, will they deliver, the usual). Finally we had visitors. A couple that part owns a big house up the road. They usually come in to see how we’re doing once or twice a year. Bought us a bottle of cava. To celebrate progress so far. Which was lovely of them. RE: The build - Small chilli - 28-01-2026 Air source heat man came back today for the last time. Just to do last bit of tinkering and make sure it all works as it should. He should have been here Monday but ferries didn’t run. Today I’ve been deciding A. Which rooms need something different to a bog standard pendant light. B what those lights will look like. My rough idea for how the kitchen will look. I’m hoping when we have our design planning meeting on Saturday. They will be able to tweak this so it’s a working kitchen. [attachment=8664] [attachment=8665] RE: The build - Small chilli - 29-01-2026 A day of brain melting. Bob had been doing all the paperwork for out air source grant. Well as much as he could. Until they wanted my passport. First job find passport. I was very lucky. First box I looked in! Passport was out of date which I knew. But Bob still tried to use it. Obviously failed, so then all the paperwork and photos to get me a renewal. £94 !!! I’ve been measuring everything within an inch of its life ( mm actually ) in the kitchen. Scribbling plans and sending them off for our online kitchen planning meeting on Tuesday . Then started trying to work out the utility layout out. |
