RE: The build - Small chilli - 16-10-2025
Moved a few more bits of MVHR into the attic and roughly placed them in the right position. Now we’re back to waiting for every other bugger, before we can get on. One thing we’re waiting for is a hole cutter. amazing how many different sizes you need to install an MVHR. The box for the 135mm hole cutter arrived yesterday. Unfortunately it arrived flat and empty. Infuriating!
Other thing we’re waiting for is a quote/ price for the sound proofing insulation. Been waiting for that for over a week now. Bob is all organised with borrowing someone’s trailer and is ready to go to Stirling. We just want to know a price. Infuriating!
We’ve got to go there to get it because all the local suppliers supply the very minimum sound proofing that passes the regs.
Bob can get all nerd about this if anyone is that bored! We’d actually like something that’s going to do the job. Hence going to Stirling
The final thing we’re waiting for ( that we remember, there may be more) . Is the bloody electrician! Again.

So frustrating, I feel for you. You're not alone. P says it's typical of UK tradesmen, especially round here. We have similar problems. Next door wanted an ash tree assessed for ash die back and a price for removal if necessary. They were quick to come out (in fact twice) said the ash had die back and they would quote for the job. Next door lady said there would be other work too. That was the last she ever heard from them, notwithstanding chasing for the quote.

To be fair she did say the other work would be under a separate quote and at a different time, tree man even had a lo9k and said he would quote. All to no avail. She's a rather diffident elderly woman so didn't nag. P would have dealt with it differently I'm sure

After I finished cleaning and Bob finished getting the horse box road worthy. We did a bit more measuring. The first pilot holes have been drilled through the exterior wall of our house. The some infill bits of cladding were put up in the correct places. So the vents are sitting on a flush surface. The first big (135mm, 13.5cm, 5 & a bit inches ) hole has been started. It’s all very disconcerting .

I can imagine how disheartening it must be to see holes being put through your new weathertight cladding. Look on it as another step closer to the finishing line.

Nerve-racking, drilling holes in walls is always stressful, more so if they're new walls. I'm sure with all your measuring they'll be in thenr8ght place.

A bit more done on the MVHR.
The last hole being drilled in the floor/ceiling [attachment=8543]
3 pipes to the left are fresh air going to living room, dining room , spare bedroom. 2 pipes to the right is hot air leaving the kitchen. [attachment=8544]
Living room & dining room finish here, spare bedroom carries on through the wall [attachment=8545]
Have one of these sticking through the ceiling in every room now . [attachment=8546]

Today we’ve finished laying all the internal pipes. [attachment=8547] [attachment=8548] [attachment=8549]
Now all we have to do is finish drilling the big holes through the external wall and connect all the metal pipe to the main unit and the boxes in the first photo.
Unfortunately…………..(here we go) the main unit arrived to us damaged. We said it’ll be fine as it’s only cosmetic and it’s in the attic. This isn’t the case after finding and reading more instructions. The main unit hangs on the wall . Guess where the bracket it hangs from goes. Yeah you got it in one. The bracket goes or in this case doesn’t go where the damage is. So we’re getting a replacement. The company has been very good about it. Said straight away you get a new one, it’s not good enough. and is very unhappy with the couriers also reticent to send a new one in the same manner. So in the near future Bob will be going on a road trip to Perth ( maybe, Bob’s going on so many road trips to collect things in the near future. I can’t remember where anything is) .
The first road trip is Wednesday, to Glasgow. To collect the new windows. Think I forgot to tell you about that rather large foe par .
